Abstract:
Waves entering a navigational channel are modified by the presence of the jetties. For a rubble-mound structure, wave energy is absorbed strongly by the jetties. Wave breaking on the jetties induces the equivalent of a longshore current along the jetty, resulting in a mean-flow circulation cell near the head of the jetties. A small-scale laboratory experiment was carried out to determine the nature of the wave-induced flows.
